'Localography' isn't a real word, it doesn't have any real, dictionary meaning. However, Adam has given it a meaning. The images in this collection were taken to be windows into moments of life that the people within the lens are experiencing. They transport you to the beaches of Zanzibar where woman are hard at work, or to the dirt roads of Namibia.
This boy travels everyday between the well found near this mural and the village he grew up in, collecting water and carrying it in the back of his bicycle. This is the only way he’ll get water for him and his family. The mural in the back gives a bigger sense to it, that there are boys all over Africa doing the same, with the same sense of joy to them. It is the joy of youth, the happiness of just getting outside and riding a bike.
Crystal Sales Girl
The girl in the photo sells crystals and minerals that are abundant in the surrounding areas of where this was taken. While valueless to her, she knows that tourists and travelers would enjoy it as a souvenir. The simple black and white shades are at odds for the detailed and interesting scene shown. It will draw the eye in whatever room it is placed, being a great conversation starter or just to admire.
The Maboneng Precinct is a part of Johannesburg city, known for it's vibrant art and culture. Street art such as this, is very common in Maboneng, most of them commissioned by the city itself. The stark contrast between the black and white allow for this print to be hung in many decor styles without feeling out of place, providing a window onto the streets of Johannesburg.
Fastest Cart in the West
This image depicts a donkey cart used to transport goods and people in the more rural settlements of Namibia. They had actually offered to race Adam in his 4x4 guaranteeing they would win. Adam graciously declined, not wanting to suffer such a humiliating defeat. This landscape depicts a very humble scene, however, the black and white tones provide a more sophisticated feel to it.
